How it works
How to calculate percent off a price
A discount calculator starts with the original price, works out what the discount percentage is worth in money, and then subtracts that amount to show the final price you actually pay.
Percentage off formula
final price = original price - (percent off ÷ 100 × original price)
First calculate the percentage-off savings, then subtract that amount from the original price.
Worked example
- 1. Start with an original price of 80.
- 2. Find 20% of 80 to get 16.
- 3. Subtract 16 from 80.
- 4. The final price is 64.

Discount math sits close to the core percentage calculator because a sale price is just a percentage of the original number. You may also want the decrease calculator when you care more about the drop itself than the final checkout price.
