How it works

Measure the drop against the starting value

Percentage decrease measures how much of the original value was lost. The starting value is the baseline.

Percentage decrease formula

((original value - new value) ÷ original value) × 100

Find the absolute drop, divide it by the original value, then multiply by 100.

Worked example

  1. 1. Start with 150 and 120.
  2. 2. The absolute drop is 30.
  3. 3. 30 ÷ 150 = 0.2.
  4. 4. 0.2 × 100 = 20%.
